Enova Community’s Social Projects

Enova Community, the not-for-profit arm of Enova has been set up with the primary aim of enabling access to renewable energy for everyone.

It also aims to increase energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption.

Enova’s Renewable Energy Development Initiative will to help kick start the development of new community renewable energy projects, both large and small, with priority for Northern Rivers-based projects. Enova will purchase power from community renewable generation projects to help make them more financially viable, and to create a pathway to transition our local customer base onto community generated clean energy supply.

How you can help

The Australian renewable energy industry desperately needs a boost, which is why the Enova Renewable Development Initiative is a critical element of our charter. Customers can contribute to the initiative by forgoing their pay on time discount. Business can also contribute $5 per week.  The money raised will be audited and reported annually.

Partner with us

Enova will soon be calling for expressions of interest for the supply of renewable energy to meet our customers’ needs. This program is another first for Enova and the region.  Not only is Enova Australia’s first community owned electricity retailer but we’re also providing a creative way to initiate community renewable energy projects.

Do you have a project that needs support?

From time to time Enova will support worthy social projects. We have a full set of criteria for projects that we will undertake for consideration of funding.  We are also more than happy to lend our skills and experience where possible. Contact us for more information.

Projects in the pipeline

Our community benefit projects will find innovative ways to reduce the energy costs of low-income households and community organisations, while also boosting the supply of renewable energy use.

First Project – RED Inc

We’ve supported Red Inc., a centre for young people with disabilities using the assistance of philanthropic co-funding and crowd funding to buy Solar Panels.

This was Enova Community’s first social benefit project. RED Inc., established 30 years ago and a much loved disability services provider in the Northern Rivers.  One of our volunteers helped get this underway, and Enova donors have also contributed.

Projects in development

We are working with the North Coast Community Housing Company, a social housing provider to install solar panels on the homes that they manage. Funding is being sought from the NSW government towards the costs and a local philanthropic organisation will sponsor to provide low cost long term finance. Energy education provided by our Enova Energy Coaches in addition to the solar panels will reduce energy bills for these households. Enova Energy will buy back solar generated energy at feed-in tariff rates and distribute it across our network of customers.

We are in feasibily stage with LightenUp Lismore and Ballina Byron Family Daycare.

Our projects include supporting groups and agencies to shape finance and deliver programs to assist vulnerable households, lower socio-economic groups and community organisations.

These current projects all involve facilitating solar – a win/win for these not profit organisations as well as the wider community as we increase our ability to harness the power of the sun, and tranistion away from less environmentally friendly fuels.
